False Pretense Millage Proposal Must Be Stopped… Here’s How:

The tax hike that the WISD and local school superintendents are pushing must be stopped. The problem is that the school boards are falsely telling parents that they will have to cut “core services” to children in a misleading emotional appeal. The school districts all claim that they have already cut all that they can. This is NOT TRUE!!!! Ask them if they have shopped around for a better deal on non-instructional services. Make sure that they answer that question. Do not allow them to tell you that they have cut expenses on health care. Make them answer the question. They don’t want to answer that question because…. THEY HAVEN’T!!!! They have in fact NOT done everything that they possibly can to cut costs.. This is not the only area in which the school administration has failed to do its job and live within its budgets. They have not consolidated duplicate services, priced outsourcing. (These people haven’t even asked if it would be cheaper a different way, why should they care, it’s not their money) But these same superintendents who have not done their jobs and not been faithful with the taxpayers’ money, think that YOU should pay MORE so that they can continue to NOT do their jobs…

This is the real last straw…

When asked what he would tell families on the verge of losing their homes…

David Killips, Chelsea Superintendent Said:

“I would tell them [hurting families] to re-prioritize their discretionary spending.”

Mr. Killips, why do you expect the working families of Washtenaw county to re-prioritize their spending when you simply refuse to re-prioritize yours? And every district and every Superintendent had the same answer. They have not done all that they can. They haven’t even done most of what they can. They must not have any more money until they get their own priorities in order.

We certainly support high quality education for our children. But we do expect the school administrators to be responsible with the money that we entrust them with. It is completely unacceptable for these superintendents to be placing this burden upon the hard working people of Washtenaw county and to demonstrate such callous disregard for the families and children that stand to lose their homes. It would be a different situation had the administrators done due diligence and tried every available option to cut costs first. But the fact of the matter is that they haven’t.

So, how do we demand responsibility from our school administrators?

First, we show up at the forums that they are hosting and ask why they refuse to seek lower cost options for non-instructional services.
